Michael Garratt

Dr. Michael Garratt is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago. Originally from the United Kingdom, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of New South Wales in Australia and the University of Michigan in the USA before settling in New Zealand. His research is interested in how reproduction influences life-history, health, and ageing. This includes understanding the physiological effects of gonadal-derived hormones, consequences of mating, and impacts of social pheromone perception on life-history trajectory. A related research theme explores how sex-specific aspects of reproduction cause sexual-dimorphism in lifespan, and influence the effectiveness of interventions developed to improve healthy ageing.
